Finally a little internet

First off, I’m sorry I haven’t updated. I’ve tried and tried but the Internet here is the worst thing; it makes the University Villa Internet seem top notch.  I have however been writing my posts and saving them on a word document so I can just copy and paste them later.  Plus I seriously have not had a spare moment to relax or even go site see on my own.  I’m going to be relieved when I don’t have to help prepare and clean up after every meal.

Today we started classes.  At 9 we had English taught by Nick.  I actually think I’m going to enjoy it; he’s a really good lecturer.  After that we had History taught by Matt.  I was so tired my head was starting to bob….I’m blaming it on kitchen duty because I have to get up so early.

After classes we did another walk.  We started at the Tower of London and ended at the Museum of London.  In between we walked down the Wall Street of London and walked into Christ Church.  Even though I’ve been here 4 days it’s still hard to fathom that I am even in London.  There is so much history here and I feel like I haven’t been able to even make a dent in my list of things I want to see and do.

Tonight I went to my first show.  It was called “Reasons to Be Pretty.”  The writer Neil LaBute went to BYU, although he has since fallen away from the church.  He is coming to the BYU London Center next time he is in town to talk to us!  Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend his play to people because of the HORRIBLE language and some content but my directors got group tickets for the students who said they wanted to see it.  The language was bad, there was no doubt more than 100 swear words in the first half.  When it first started I knew I recognized the main guy but couldn’t figure out where I had seen him before.  It took me a couple of minutes to figure it out; he was on an episode of Poirot that I watched with Erin over the summer (Er, remember the episode where the guy’s girlfriend dies in the beginning and like four days later he like has another girlfriend and he like doesn’t even mourn over the first girl?)  Anyway even if she doesn’t remember that I know it was him.  The play is set in America so they all had to act with American accents, which was fun for me because I could totally tell their American accents weren’t authentic.

In the 4 days I have been here I have already seen two Harry Potter cast members.  You should remember from a couple posts ago that I saw Ralph Fiennes on Friday, and then I was lucky enough to see one more today.  It was from a block away but walking down Ossington (the street which the back of the center overlooks) was Bonnie Wright a.k.a. Ginny Weasley.  A couple of the girls ran after her and got a picture, but I am not the type of person to put myself out there and bug a celebrity, although now I kind of wish I had gotten a picture with her.

The weather here has been heavenly.  It’s way warmer now than Salt Lake was when I left.  It’s like sweatshirt weather, although I would never wear a sweatshirt outside because I would stick out like a sore thumb.  The British are so well dressed that even my nicest clothes make me feel like a slob!
